ok, SO NO, I didn't pay attention in Social Studies

Ok, can I ask a question? I don't pay attention to politics. That is pretty obvious from the last post I wrote. But let me ask a question...... Why does everyone think the world is going to end and that because Barack Obama is president, that the United States is going to Hell!!! Anyone care to try and explain that to me? I know that he has said some things that are a little crazy, but we made it through the Clinton Administration and we are still kicking... someone just please fill me in on why we should prepare for the last days???!!!!

I just can't stop!! I am consolidating everthing here and I'll erase the other stuff.

Okay, I will do my best to explain, although to tell the truth, I didn't listen in Social Studies, either. But I did listen to School House Rock. I really don't know much about politics, but here is what I do know.

My understanding is that some people (less than half the voters, apparently - haha) are upset about Obama for a few reasons. Most of the reasons are based on falsehoods. For example, there is a rumor going around about Obama being the anti-Christ as defined in the book of Revelations. False. Another is that his birth certificate was forged. Probably false. (If he wasn't born in the US than he couldn't be president.) This theory is fed by conspiracy theorist who find it a BIG co-inky-dink that he grandma died the day before the election. Hmmmm. Maybe he had her killed because she knows the truth - again conspiracy theorist. You grew up close enough to Idaho to appreciate the looneys they can be. Another falsehood is that Obama said he wouldn't pledge allegiance to the flag.

The truths that have people worried are that he is the MOST liberal senator of ALL time. More than Ted Kennedy or Hillary Clinton. He is in favor of partial birth abortions, gay marriage, and a bunch of other stuff that most Christians worry about because we don't believe that stuff is moral.

Some people, especially those who have been the war, are worried about his get out of the east policy and that we are opening our doors for more terrorist attacks. The war is costing A FORTUNE that we don't have to spend, as illustrated by our growing national debt. Proponents say it is worth is. Antagonists say it is not.

Some people are paranoid that he is partially Muslim and only joined a Christian church when he became active in politics. He has dropped his middle name - Hussein - a VERY common Muslim name.

This is compounded by the fact that Clinton did not leave a strong voice about Democrats and terrorism. Something like 10 of our consulates in other countries were bombed while he was president and he did nothing about it.

Obama wants to force the rich to give to the government so that the government (after lining the politicians pockets) can distribute it to the poor. That is a socialist government, not a democracy.

Obama also thinks that things like health care and education are rights, not privileges or responsibilities. The constitution clearly states that "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness" are our only rights. A good society will also provide health care and educational opportunities, but those are responsibilities, not rights. Some say this is an attempt to change the constitution.

As Mormons we also know that this land will only be free as long as the voice of the people choose righteousness. I couldn't help but think of, I think it's Coriantur, who led the people away with his great ability of speech, as I watched the debates.

Obama also wants to do big time radical gun control measures.

Some Democrats have compared Obama to Jesus, saying he unified the people of the community and that Sarah Palin, like Pontius Pilate, was a governor. That was probably just supposed to be for a laugh. But it was not taken that way.

Also, Obama has a ton of programs that he is going to implement and no money to finance them. All that is the same old rhetoric that has been going on with politicians since the beginning of time.

This election season also had the unique result of the house, senate, and president all being Democrat (usually they don't all win) this means that the Democrat agenda will not have the usual checks and balances that comes with the Republicans having control.

Are you still awake? Sorry this has gotten really long. I don't know much about politics, but the above is my understanding.

I REALLY hope that all the Obama-naysayers are wrong and that I have a big old dish of crow pie to eat for my words. I really really hope that, but I don't think it will happen.

Two more things -

One - I forgot to say that most NObama-ers also think that the federal governments ONLY roles should be to protect people from other people invading their rights, from hurting each other (physically, emotionally, and spiritually) and gives people the opportunity to pursue their goals. Other than that, stay out of it, and let the people decide. The constitutions says, "Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness" and that everything else should be left up to the individual state governments. Obama (and others in his court) wants to increase the oversee power of the federal government - to guns, health care, etc.

TWO - and most important - uh, YES you should be preparing for the last days. We all should. Does that mean it's going to be next week, next year, or even next decade? Maybe not, but we all should be preparing since anyone of us can have our last day any day. Also, the prophets have only been counseling such for ... oh, I don't know ... since JOSEPH SMITH. Well, Isaiah, too, now that I think of it and Jeremiah. Okay, since the beginning of time.

Love you!

The bottom line, for me, is what has happened, happened. Obama isn't the worst choice (better than Hillary -haha) and it's not like McCain was without his flaws - and don't get me started on Sarah Palin. In any case, we are the UNITED states and we need to be UNITED. We can disagree and not be disagreeable. So, I will continue to pray for the President of the United States and our government leaders (they are going to need it - Iran, North Korea, economy, national debt, etc.)and hope for the best.

THE END.
